Board of Trustees – Meet the New Trustees
Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities.
– R. David Lankes
Faith, community and family are the cornerstones of my life. Having just received my masters degree from Regent University of Virginia Beach, my concentration of studies was devoted to grief counseling. I plan to create and foster a safe place for people experiencing all forms of grief, to share their stories and journeys, where the path to healing is paved with friendship and open dialogue. The position on the Board of Trustees of the East Greenbush Library, is an opportunity for me to expand this passion for serving others.
Aside from working in human resources at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, I am also a certified yoga instructor. Currently I am leading a class on yoga for fertility, where women can support one another throughout their unique yet shared experiences.
Married to Town Justice Kevin Engel, we have 6 children between us, 5 grandchildren, and 3 lively Labrador retrievers.
As a member of the East Greenbush Library Board of Trustees I hope to bring my experiences to our community and foster growth, inclusion, and creativity.
The Upper Hudson Library system has always been a significant part of my life. Growing up in the City of Albany, I was a voracious reader and a regular visitor to the library on Delaware Avenue. While a student at the University at Albany, I would consistently visit the main branch on Washington Avenue, studying and working on research papers until the library would close at night.
This passion for the library continued when we would bring our oldest child, to the New Scotland library for story time. And finally, when we moved, our youngest would attend the same programs at the East Greenbush Community Library.
My wife, Jennifer O’Brien, served on the Library Board for several years, and I feel it is now my opportunity to give back to the this great library that we have in our community.
I am currently the Executive Vice President of the New York State Builders Association. NYSBA, is the voice of the residential construction industry in New York, and represents 2,000 builders, developers, remodelers, building and property managers and suppliers. I just finished serving on the Habitat for Humanity, NYS board, where I was chairman from 2014-2018.
