Stage two tile work will begin after-hours on Tuesday, November 12. This stage will include the replacement of the interior mosaic. Installation is scheduled to continue through Friday, November 15. Access to the main entry and meeting rooms will not be impacted, and access through the main hallway will be temporarily confined to 3 feet on either side of the mosaic. Thank you for your continued patience with our interior work. Once this stage is over, we will move on to replace the entryway carpet walk-off mats. As always, we welcome your input or questions.

10/22/2024

The Main Entrance will remain closed until Friday morning (October 25) for full concrete curing.

On Wednesday (October 23), crews will be working outside putting topsoil in the gaps near the front entrance.  This may continue into Thursday. Inside, the construction crew will be working on the tile base. The tile work for stage one should conclude by the end of Wednesday.

10/18/2024

Thank you for your patience during the main entrance closure this week! We appreciate your understanding as we’ve navigate these needed repairs. We’re nearly ready to reopen the main entrance. While removing the old sidewalk, we discovered that the original base layer was sand, instead of the recommended rock, which likely caused the cracking over time. The contractors have been preparing the area for our new sidewalk, and the cement is scheduled to be poured on Monday, October 21. If all goes as planned, we anticipate reopening the main entrance on Wednesday, October 23, one day later than originally planned).

Please note that the Library will be closed on Monday, October 21, for a staff development day, with a delayed opening at 1 p.m. opening on Tuesday, 10/22. However, drive-thru window services will remain open at 9 a.m on Tuesday, 10/22.

Tile work will also continue on Monday. Although we had hoped to preserve the mosaic tile, the removal of the green border tile revealed issues with cracking and instability throughout, leading to the decision to replace all the tile. Fortunately, our contingency budget covers this additional work, but it does mean that tile work will extend for at least another week. It should not impact any meeting rooms or entrances.

We’re nearing the end of the fall construction phase, and we greatly appreciate the support of our staff and community.

  • Sitework Complete: After addressing unexpected groundwater, sitework is finished.
  • Front Canopy Painting: Resumed on October 7. Final punch list items are in progress.
  • Sidewalk Replacement: Starting October 15, the sidewalk under the front canopy will be replaced, causing main entrance closure from October 15-21. Loudest work (demolition) is expected on October 15-16. Main entrance will reopen October 22.
  • Alternate Entrances: During this closure, use Meeting Room A or the Children’s Room (Family & Handicap Access). A temporary ramp will be available.
  • Tile Work: Demolition work began today and will be ongoing during off-hours. Tile installation starts October 16 and will continue while the library is open. Meeting rooms remain accessible, and bathroom access will be maintained. Storytimes next week will be moved to YMCA.
  • Library Closed: On October 21 for staff development and bathroom tile work. Reopens October 22 at 1pm. Drive-thru window services will remain open.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these final steps!

Thank you for your continued patience as we approach the finish line—just a few more weeks before we pause work for the winter.

While most of the exterior site and drainage work is complete, a few final punch list items remain. Here’s what to expect in the coming weeks:

  • Painting on the front entry canopy will resume on October 7, following a brief pause for the book sale.
  • Concrete work for the sidewalks will begin on October 11. We will be replacing the sidewalk under the front canopy and adding a new sidewalk connecting to the Multipurpose Room door.
  • The main entrance will be temporarily closed starting October 15. Please use Meeting Room A (Main Entry) or the Children’s Room (Family & Handicap Access) during this time.

Interior tile work:

  • Tile demolition will occur while the library is closed.
  • Tile and grout installation is scheduled for October 15-22, while the library is open.
  • We plan to complete the bathroom tile work on October 21 (Staff Development Day, library closed) and will open later on October 22 (1-8pm).

We understand this phase may be more disruptive. Foot and vehicle traffic will be rerouted with cones and signage to guide you. If you’re attending a program or using our meeting rooms, please be aware of potential construction noise. We’ll do our best to limit loud work to off-hours.

Bathroom access will remain available during open hours.

Progress! Site work and painting are the main focus this week, which includes storm drainage work and the restoration and seeding of top soil.

Painters are diligently prepping and painting the exposed steel and underside of the entry and drive-thru canopies, alongside the concrete canopy base. The exposed steel, currently in white and maroon, is being transformed to a charcoal grey and white, aligning with the new color scheme for the windows and front entry door, which will replace the current green with charcoal grey.

We invite you to check out our updated project gallery video to see the work in action.

Please note that the drive-thru will be closed from 6am to 4pm on Wednesday 9/25, Thursday 9/26, Friday 9/27, and Monday 9/30, although the library will remain open, and returns and holds can be picked up at the circulation desk. For those with mobility challenges, feel free to contact the library at 518-859-6251 for curbside service. Thank you for your continued patience.

9/16/2024

This week our contractors will be focusing on site preparation and painting all exterior metal doors and the metal around entry canopies. Today, the began the process by sanding the doors, which can be quite noisy!

Please note that doors with windows will be replaced during the upcoming spring window replacement project. While we aim to minimize the disruption, some aspects of this work- such as noise, debris, changes to parking, and foot traffic- may affect your visit to the library.

We will continue to provide construction updates online, although please be aware that scheduled work may change without prior notice. If you have any concerns about how this may impact your visit, meeting, or program, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 518-477-7476.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we carry out these essential building renovations.

The construction project committee is working on finalizing finishes. Tile and grout have been selected, and finishes on the exterior EIFS, metal trim, metal doors and metal windows are under consideration. Site work continues and this week’s priorities include:

  • Test pit for utilities
  • Storm drainage installation
  • Blacktop repair at the parking lot storm inlets

9/3/2024

Construction work begins today! The library will remain open for the duration of the project with minimal public disruptions.

  • Construction hours will typically take place between 7:30 am-4:00 pm
  • A fenced staging area will be located in the rear parking lot
  • The first step will be to remove hazardous trees (several dead trees in rear of building)
