Movies at the Library
Movies are very popular here at the East Greenbush Community Library. And why not? Movies – much like books – transport us to new worlds and introduce us to new ways of being. The library is proud to be a destination for watching great movies as well as providing an extensive collection of films that you can take home with you. If you ever note anything missing from our collection, simply head over to the Suggestion page and let us know!
Refer to this page for information on upcoming Free Monthly Movies, Special Movie events, and of course, all the information regarding the Day Before the Awards Film Festival. PLEASE NOTE: Tickets are required for Film Festival films, BUT NOT REQUIRED for Free Monthly Movies. Registration is required for both.
Free Monthly Movies for Spring 2019
March Monthly Movie – Green Book
When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger-as well as unexpected humanity and humor-they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.
April Monthly Movie – Mary Poppins Returns
The film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ series. In the story, Michael and Jane are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen, living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
Registration for this event will begin on March 15.
May Monthly Movie – On the Basis of Sex
The film tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will premiere in 2018 in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.
Registration for this event will begin on April 10.
