2026 Library Budget Vote & Trustee Election

Date: Monday, November 17, 2025, polls are open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: 10 Community Way, East Greenbush NY 12061

Proposition 1: Whether the budget in the amount of $2,878,395 proposed by the Board of Trustees of the East Greenbush Community Library for the year 2026 shall be approved

Proposition 2: A second proposal on the ballot is the election of three positions on the Library’s Board of Trustees for three terms. Two positions are for a 5-year term, beginning January 1, 2026. The third position is to complete a term through December 2027 of a Trustee who resigned. Petitions for candidacy were accepted until 10/20/2025. Five petitions were submitted.

Who is eligible to vote in the Library election?

  • The East Greenbush Community Library is a Special Legislative Library District chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
  • Voters, both renters and property owners, need to be registered in New York State and live within the Library District 30 days prior to the vote.
  • The Library District consists of all of the Town of East Greenbush. The Library District does not follow the East Greenbush School District or Town of Schodack boundaries.

What is the deadline for submitting an absentee ballot application?
Completed applications must be personally delivered to the East Greenbush Community Library addressed to the Director no later than the 7th day before the election (November 10th by 5pm). Applications are available in the library and online.

Trustee Candidates

There are three open positions on the Library Board of Trustees. Terms will begin on January 1, 2026.  To qualify, candidates must reside in the Town of East Greenbush, and submit a petition signed by at least 25 qualified East Greenbush voters along with their Trustee Application. The deadline to submit the required documents was Monday, October 20, 2025 at 5 p.m. The following are summary qualifications and applicant questionnaires for the candidates that filed petitions.

Library Card Registration Free to any individual who resides or pays taxes in the East Greenbush Community Library taxing district or Town of Schodack. Cards expire and must be renewed every three years.

Free to any individual who volunteers or works at the EGRN Library. Cards expire and must be renewed yearly.

Free to partner educational agencies with verified employment. Cards expire and must be renewed yearly.

Those that live outside the UHLS area may purchase a temporary card at the price established by our Table of Fines and Fees. Cards expire and must be renewed yearly.

All ages eligible. Youth under age 16 must have their application completed and signed by a parent or guardian, who provides acceptable identification for them.

Card blocked at $5 or more in replacement costs or fines/fees

The UHLS MyCard is a fine-free, limited-access library card for youth. It is intended to address multiple barriers to serving youth and families, including:

  • Barriers to access related to fines (e.g. computer access, checking out materials)
  • Parents not present for a child’s library card registration
  • Previous fines on a child’s card

Free for youth residing in a community served by a UHLS library.Applicants 18 and under who are applying for a limited use, UHLS Youth Only MyCard, need to provide name, address, and date of birth.UHLS library cards expire and must be renewed every three years.Youth ages birth to 18 can register unaccompanied, or with the help of a caregiver or relative who is not the child’s parent/guardian.This card may be used at all UHLS Libraries except for the Colonie Town Library.
