Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The East Greenbush Community Library is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability. We strive to ensure our digital content meets the standards of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA and supports equitable access for all members of our community.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we are continually working to improve the usability and inclusiveness of our website.

Accessibility Features

We work to support accessibility by doing things like:

  • Using clear headings and page structure to support screen readers

  • Providing sufficient color contrast for text and interface elements

  • Supporting keyboard navigation for menus, buttons, links, and forms

  • Adding text alternatives for meaningful images (alt text)

  • Providing descriptive link text (so links make sense out of context)

  • Designing forms with clear labels, instructions, and error messages

  • Avoiding content that flashes rapidly or could trigger seizures

  • Making PDFs and downloadable documents available in accessible formats when possible

Conformance Status

We are actively working toward conformance with WCAG 2.2 AA. While we strive to make every page accessible, some content may not yet fully meet all requirements.

Known Limitations

Some accessibility issues may occur, for example:

  • Older PDF files or scanned documents may not be fully accessible

  • Some third-party tools (event calendars, embedded maps, social media feeds, ticketing or payment tools) may have accessibility limitations outside our control

  • Certain legacy pages may need updates to headings, link text, or color contrast

We prioritize fixes that affect core tasks like finding information, registering for programs, contacting us, and using online services.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility is part of our ongoing website maintenance. Our process may include:

  • Automated scans (to detect common issues like contrast, missing alt text, and form label problems)

  • Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation

  • Review of page structure, headings, and reading order

  • Periodic checks of new content and page templates
