Library Assistant – Youth & Family Services (part-time)

Position overview

The East Greenbush Community Library is seeking a friendly, creative, service-oriented Library Assistant (part-time) to join our Youth & Family Services team. This role supports daily operations in the Children’s and Teen Rooms and helps with readers’ advisory, collections, programs, and events for children, teens, and families.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with library collections and services.
  • Staff the Youth & Family Services desk, as assigned.
  • Support the planning and delivery of in-library and outreach programs for children, teens, and families.
  • Create and maintain engaging displays of library materials.
  • Design posters and promotional materials using Canva (or similar tools).
  • Help maintain a welcoming, safe, and comfortable environment for children, teens, and families.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university; or
  • Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, plus two (2) years of library experience.
  • Experience working with children and teens.

  • Have strong computer skills and be comfortable learning new technologies.

Compensation

$22.21-$27.76 per hour. Placement within this range is based on relevant experience and the library’s step schedule.

Schedule and assignment

Preferred schedule:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays: 4:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 4:30-8:00 p.m.
  • Alternating Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

We will be flexible for the right candidate.
